SCWebCam was created when I couldn't find anything else that did this back in 1999. It functions like a webcam, except it uploads your computer screen instead of using a camera and taking a picture of you LOOKING at your computer screen. (If you have a camera, however, you can even integrate the video image into the capture!).

SCWebCam3 has MANY features:

Automatic capture and FTP Upload with configurable timer Tabbed configuration interface, and relatively human-readable error messages Saves image as JPG or PNG with variable quality, size, and thumbnail functionality. (Or 24-bit BMP with sizing and thumbnail). Choice of several image resize engines to balance quality with speed, and image can be sized by percentage or absolute pixel size Optionally minimizes to the system tray, with visible countdown and single-click pause Detects screen saver, locked workstation, and logoff/shutdown, and can upload an 'offline' image at those times Capture can run in several reduced priority modes to minimize the impact to your system - good for games! Can automatically detect modem connections, and operate only when the modem is connected (experimental!) Autorun and Autostart available Text caption with selectable font, color and location Ability to capture the Desktop (including translucent windows on 2k/XP), only the Active Window, only the Primary Monitor, and/or Still Video Frames from a Video-For-Windows compliant webcam or other capture device (such as TV card) Optional preview window allows you to view a video source while still allowing SCWebCam to capture frames from it Configurable bandwidth throttling on FTP upload Ability to run in local mode without FTP upload step Ability to automatically rotate a number of uploads on FTP server Built-in WWW server - serve your desktop or even a small web page right from your own PC! System/Error Log capability produces a log of your computer settings in case you need to email for help - the author won't need to ask so many questions! Password lockout feature allows you to lock the configuration for monitoring purposes!

SCWebCam uses portions of the ImgSource Library by Smaller Animals Software (http://www.smalleranimals.com/isource.htm), a terrific and very flexible library for Windows.

Also, if you run Linux, KWebSnap is a neat looking (unauthorized) clone of SCWebCam for X-Windows. :) {Note: I have not tested this Linux application, I don't know how well it works. If you do, let me know!).

Notes
Help file does not work on Vista
Does not work on Windows 95.
Multi-monitor captures may have black bars if one display is smaller than the other - this is normal.
Multi-monitor may not capture colors right on a paletted display if the primary display is high or true color. Set all monitors to either paletted (256 colors) or not (15/16/24/32 bit). It's okay to mix different settings of true color (ie: 24 bit and 16 bit is okay.)
Uploading to the root directory may not work on some FTP servers. (12003)
Error 12003 may also occur with other FTP servers when Passive Mode is on
Moving images may appear 'torn' or 'broken up' when captured with 'Hard Capture' off.
System Tray Icon may not appear when also using Coolmon or pjWebCam on some systems (Not yet reproduced)
System Tray Icon does not appear when Stardock's "TrayServer.exe" is running (has been reproduced)
Web Server requires a public IP address for internet use (the program can detect this in most cases)
File history rotation is not implemented for the local temp folder (FTP only)
Video capture may not work properly when station is locked or in screen saver, even when selected
BMPs are not affected by the Quality slider - they are always 24 bit uncompressed
May hang with some low-quality webcams during 'Checking Video Devices' - unplugging the device usually does the trick.
Some Unicode Text files may be misinterpreted as being double-spaced.
